How to Choose an RO Water Purifier in Pune

By SACHSTAR · Editorial update: 9 October 2026

The short answer

Choose a purifier by the contaminants in your water, the treatment it is designed to provide, your daily demand and service support. RO is not automatically needed for every Pune household, and a TDS reading alone cannot establish water safety.

Start with the water source and evidence

Record whether you use municipal, borewell, tanker or mixed supply. Source information helps frame the questions, but it cannot establish which contaminants are present. A TDS meter estimates dissolved solids; a suitable laboratory test is needed for microbial or specific chemical concerns.

Compare the treatment, not the stage count

RO uses a membrane to reduce dissolved substances; UV disinfects with light; UF filters through a membrane. Their capabilities differ. Ask which concerns each fitted stage addresses and request the manufacturer’s performance information for the exact model.

  • Check the allowed inlet pressure, water-quality limits and electrical requirements.
  • Ask about the reject-water stream and how it will be drained.
  • Do not treat alkaline, copper or vitamin branding as proof of safety or a health benefit.

Size for actual use

Estimate the water used for drinking and cooking, including your busiest period. Check usable storage and production rate rather than assuming a household size guarantees a particular model is suitable. Also measure mounting space and confirm access for service.
