Common RO Problems

By SACHSTAR · Editorial update: 9 October 2026

The short answer

Low flow, leaks, noise and changed taste can have several causes. Record the symptoms and arrange diagnosis rather than replacing a membrane or pump based on one symptom alone.

Low output or slow tank filling

Check the manual for ordinary operating indicators and whether the water supply is available. A technician may need to investigate inlet pressure, blocked filters, pump performance, a full-tank control or the membrane. Avoid adjusting internal controls without appropriate expertise.

Leaks or unusual noise

A leak may come from tubing, a fitting, housing or another component. Noise may relate to pressure, air, mounting or a pump issue. Stop use if the unit is leaking or has an electrical fault, isolate water and power if safe, and share photos when booking inspection.

Taste, odour or reading changes

Taste and odour changes can relate to the source water, storage, cartridges or other conditions. A TDS reading is only one diagnostic indicator. If contamination is suspected, use a known safe supply while appropriate testing and system checks are arranged.

Useful details for a repair request

  • Last service and replaced components.
  • When the symptoms began and whether they are continuous.
  • Water source and any measured changes.
